You can read more about this initiative here and help us spread this awareness in Asia, because we believe Asia is the Future.
In 2008, Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers or better known as ICANN announced the biggest expansion in its history for new gTLDs (generic top level domain) with unlimited applications allowed. In total, there are 21 gTLDs currently operating in the internet space, such as .com , .net and .org. You can view the gTLD list here.
This marks an important milestone in Asia because with the largest population of Internet users in the world, Asia stands to benefit the most out of the new gTLD program. The new gTLD expansion program opens new horizons for the Asian business community to create greater presence on the Internet – an identity and a place to unify.
What’s interesting is that ICANN now allows the non-Latin script format for domain names (better known as IDN or Internationalized Domain Name). For example, it is possible that by 2010, you will be able use domains ending with .中国 extension instead of .CHINA.
This initiative is aimed at creating awareness for this amazing opportunity to businesses all across Asia.
